What We’ve Been Up To….

For Kenzie’s half birthday Friday (Eight-and-a-half, Mom - not eight), we made popcorn and watched E.T. He’d never seen it before and was duly impressed. I’d forgotten what a wonderful film it is. Now, I’m nostalgic for all my old E.T. stuff - the plastic E.T. with the neck that moved up and down, the Speak and Spell, the tote bag with the bicycle/moon image I got from Dunkin’ Donuts, the little figurine of E.T. in the blue robe holding a beer…. I wonder whatever happened to those things….
Kenzie’s spent the past few days writing the beginnings of Yu-Gi-Oh novels and “tips and tricks” books for his favorite Pokemon games. He’s also been drawing examples from his new how-to-draw-superheroes book and listening to The Fellowship of the Ring on cassette. At the moment, he’s watching Labyrinth. “I wish the goblins would come and take you away… right now.”
I just finished reading The Icarus Girl, Helen Oyeyemi’s mysterious, slightly creepy novel that draws on Nigerian (Yoruba) mythology and am thinking (only thinking, mind you) of starting on the kitchen. Or maybe I should do some vacuuming….
