Changing Plans

Well, our 4th of July celebrations didn’t go as planned.
The night before the 4th, our neighbor shot off fireworks until long after midnight, scaring the dogs (neither of whom would leave my side all night) and keeping everyone from sleeping. Like in most cities, fireworks are illegal here within the city limits, but our neighbor is a police officer, so there was really no way to stop him. The next morning, we found several used and blackened firecracker pieces in our yard.
The 4th, itself, was filled with heavy rain and lightning, and the city cancelled its fireworks show. So, we decided to watch movies and munch on queso, instead. Kenzie chose The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and Microcosmos, and later, Terry and I watched Bill Murray in Broken Flowers.
All in all, not a bad 4th, but certainly not what we had planned. The discovery of Microcosmos, though, makes up for any disappointment we might have felt. What an amazing film! I’d been meaning to get a copy for years, and I’m thrilled we finally did. It’s even better than my expectations. I’ve added it to the unschooling entomology resources at the LFLF website.
