Kid-Designed Comics

A few months ago, I wrote an article about Kenzie’s love of comic books. Today, he spent hours working on a new comic book he plans to sell for $3/copy. The comic book is called "Goblin’s Lair," and the premier issue is "Invasion of the Giant Evil Birds" and stars "darkness goblins," dragons, cobras and, of course, giant evil birds. He had me do a bit of the writing, but he wrote out several things, himself, as well. We talked for a while about the different ways in which comics are produced, compared working independently to working for a company, and figured out how many copies he’d need to sell in order to buy several things he wants. He even put a coupon in the first issue to entice readers to buy the second. He told me that this comic will be cooler and will sell more copies than regular comics because it’s "kid-designed." "You can tell," he said excitedly. "Look at the wings on the dragon! Look at the snakes! It’s kid-drawn, and that makes it different! Kids will want to buy it!"
Here are the cover and first page out of eleven, so far.

I finished uploading support groups by state to the website and added Issue 7, now at the printer’s. It’s been a long, long few days, but I won’t be able to relax until I’m back from the RE conference and Issue 7 is out the door. I’m in the home stretch, though. I’m looking forward to giving the house a thorough deep cleaning as soon as I get a full night’s sleep. Ahh, shining tile and spotless sinks….
